Revue Reviews: Hoshiai no Sora/Stars Align (2019)

An here we have it, the Wokest Anime. Proof that you can make Anime suck with a little whining. Yes folks THIS is that anime of legend that many Nerds, Weebs and Animation Enthusiasts fear would get made and it is Horrible. I propose a question can you make some of the softest, poorly written, and badly animated Anime look good? If you make a Anime like Stars Align stuff like that won't matter.

Episode 1

The first 24+ minutes and it's dull as Hell. We get introduced to Toma and Maki and their home and school lives. The Boys Soft Tennis Club is Declared Scrubs by the Fatass Student Council President and Our Beta heroes are trying their best not to cry. Some girl named Kadako thinks the Boys might not suck all that bad and Toma bribes Maki into joining his band of scrubs.

Random Notes

Can you make a Wobby Character More unlikeable than the Antagonist?

Most Unintentionally Funny Moment

Well it's a Tie between the Scene where Toma's mom waits on the older brother hand and foot (She talks to him like he's the Dad or something) just before she complains about having to "Live" with Toma...Or there's the post credits scene where Maki's Dad pays a visit and Bitch Slaps him for not making with the "Goods".

So far SO woke

Episode 2

In every progressive Show there's "Homophobic" Bullies, Yuta is about to learn what a Fag Drag is but Toma arrives to stare off the Toxic Males. After introducing the rest of the Losers in the Tennis Club they have an uninspiring run to make is perfectly clear that other than Maki and Toma this Team sucks...And Kadako agrees with me. We unfortunately learn Kadako is a Dirty Commie who draws shitty Yuri Art online, Also Yuta has a crush on Toma. After a Tutorial for How to hold and swing a Tennis racket, Maki pisses off just about all the losers with how cool he supposed to be and episode ends.

Random Notes

I HATE the End theme

Most Poorly Excecuted Scene Transition

It takes Talent to make a Domestic Abuse subplot look stupid but feel stupid but here we are.

We are 2 episodes in and I don't WANT to continue

Episode 3

I don't know why they didn't throw out Kadako for being a ungratful Freeloader and Maki is the Tennis "Special".  You don't believe me? They have practice matches to show where ALL of the show's budget went where He and Toma win 3 times easy. But it could be that the rest of the club members suck so it could be both. This makes TOMA MAD and he almost uppercuts his mom when he returns home. Back to Maki being Super Good at a sport he NEVER cared about, he figures that they might have to change their pairings to perform better. Some bullies show up to remind us this IS a Woke production. Itsuki (One of the short ones) finally does something interesting, Stands up for themselves but the animate the scene like it's a slasher movie. After getting a Stern talking to they resume the Soy in progress and Maki begs Toma to stay in this Terrible Anime.

Random Notes

They went OUT of their way to give Itsuki a interesting backstory but couldn't show the "scars" of his past

Most Lame Knockoff

This is what Prince of Tennis would FEEL like if you took away the Anime and read some Tumblr posts and found it "Deep". (Yes, Prince of Tennis is Better than this)

I think I Hate Maki Too...

Episode 4

So they Re-arrange the Pairs and because Maki IS the Special it works out. The Girl's Team looks at the inferior males with scorn for some reason. The Student Council returns to remind us that Fat people exist but shouldn't be main characters and this show is Gay. Rintaro (The Redhead that sounds like he's Everyone's Gay best Friend) has a Mom i guess. Kadako Needs to actually learn how to cook and I think this show doesn't like Boys/Men/Males but WHY did they make almost all the main characters male? After the Post credits scene Maki's Dad is Back!

Random Notes

It's GOOD to know that one Japanese Studio would depict their Law Enforcement is Powerless to protect the Whamen.

Most Misandrist Point

Despite being Better at tennis and if would actually make them look good in doing so the Girl's  Tennis Team would rather let the Scrub Boys lose and laugh at them while doing so than help them improve. I guess in Bad Anime Women ONLY help women.

Someone thought this was a GOOD idea

Episode 5

Maki has to break it to Toma that his dad is what We call in the business An Asshole and Needs a new tennis racket. Some jocks show up to remind us that the main characters a Betas and Yuta IS Gay. Toma takes money out o his trust fund to flex at Maki's Dad or get him to lay off (threats are made...). A pointless scene happens that I'll discuss in the "Most" segment at the end. More Misandry occurs and Rintaro bitches that he sucks because he's either a bitch or his Mommy left him. Maki continues to look like a cunt and our dirty Commie Kadako tries to pretend she doesn't want his "D". They head to their Practice match (They set this up since the last episode but it REALLY wasn't that important) and Toma continuously shoves aside the Team's advisor be cause other than Shingo (The other Tall redhead) he's the least beta of the bunch. The Team captain of the rival team confirms that our protagonists ARE scrubs.

Random Notes

This show doesn't look too bad honestly but I feel like (and a lot of American cartoons do this too) the studio wanted to win an award but No one in Japan would watch this unless you paid them.

Most Pointless Cutaway

Remember that Fat Student Council President, The one that gets to dance in the shitty end theme as if she actually has any presence in the plot? They dedicated a whole scene to her and her COMPLETELY impossible lifestyle as a Fat heiress (I'm pretty sure any High Class Japanese Family wouldn't let her Reach that size). For a production that read the Woke manifesto even they didn't want a fatty to be a Main Character.

THIS show has "Fans"

Episode 6

More Tennis "Action" with three Matches, Taiyo and Nao botch it but make it clear they aren't the same scrubs from Episode 1. Atashi (The Rival Captain) getting a backrub the Biggest wussy on his team is NOT amused. Itsuki and Rintaro (Notice how I don't mention their opponents, other than THAT captain dude they are just bodies) out paly their cocky opponents. Tusbatsa and Shingo have maybe the most entertaining strategy of playing like Fratboy assholes by Yelling to throw off their opponents. They Lose but they managed to actually make me chuckle. Last up is our Leads vs Atashi and his Beta partner. The play for a bit and Maki figures out something before the episode ends.

Random Notes

If I didn't make it clear YES the Tennis parts (The Action beats of this Test of Patience) are boring. The bit with Shingo and Tsubatsa is kind of funny but this isn't a funny show out side of the misguided wokeness.

Most Sad Explanation

If it wasn't apparent why they have Kadako in the story it's because they had to have somebody else other than Maki not give a shit about Tennis to explain Tennis rules to.

Halfway done with this Mistake

Episode 7

The Match from last episode continues where Maki and Toma exploit their opponents lack of teamwork. It works for a bit until the guy Atashi cucks on the daily grows the minerals to actually try playing. Maki and Toma lose but just make their opponents work for it, Kadako is disappointed she can't finger herself later since they didn't get completely scrubbed. More nothing, and then the Team advisor rewards them with a Beta Brunch  at the beach. They go through a lot of effort to try and fail to make these losers seem down to earth. Atashi shows up to show that he was the ONLY reason they had those matches, so they can get information about some matches that will come up. It's very transparent since that was the second time the Team played Tennis in the show and no from their school interacts with them outside of mocking them or passively looking down on them. In the post credits scene Someone's parent snitched about...Something?

Random Notes

Is it weird that they made the sole Female character a Useless loser that acts like an Incel? Remember they took Woke notes and THIS is the show they came up with.

Most Wasteful Plot point

Like I said other than to have the characters play Tennis and Lose, that Rival team doesn't come back outside of the Captain. No rivalry or nothing

Episode 8

The Episode starts off with Nao getting yelled at by his mom for Still being on the crappy Tennis team. It turns out Nao's mom snitched (or made a complaint) about the Scrub Squad and they have to take a week off. They find out that their Next match is against some school with (wait for it...) a Black Bishi as their star player. The Gay Captain (I think his name was Yuta) comes up with a plan so they can spy on them because they Police (in Japan) won't prevent domestic abuse but they will arrest some kids for simply hanging around a school. Probably one of the most well known parts of this show happens where they ACTUALLY talk about Transgenderism and Non Binary crap. The even bring up some nobody character that is all about that garbage making it clear that they will make a character with a Tumblr bio as their sole character trait but they WON'T be a main character.

Maki and Yuta exit the room and later at the Train Station they reveal they look like random background characters that happen to be girl. Yeah they pull a crossdressing bit and it's NOT funny at all. Somehow Kadako is the Pointman in this plan and she manages to get the attention of and distract 3 other girls without her becoming a pan pizza (Maki and Yuta don't even get acknowledged). After they get their footage and save Kadako from the beatdown that should have happened the second she opened her mouth, they get some idea of what they might need to do in their next match. Their Advisor begs their Female counterpart for some assistance in training the Scrubs and you can tell she gets off watching this man squirm. Kadako pours her Commie Artist heart out to the same Guy in another scene and the episode ends with the another amazing post credits scene.

Random Notes

Golf Clap for the Super Progressive Trans/Non Binary scene

Most Unintentionally Funny Post Credits Scene

They frame it once again like a horror scene where Yuta's Mom catches him with girls clothes in a bag. Her delivery is SO cheesy I almost expect her to strangle him right there. Woke ain't Welcome in THIS Household!

Kadako the Biggest Loser of this awful Anime

Episode 9

Nao's Mom is Still being a cunt about him being in the worlds shittiest Tennis club and Shingo talks his parents into letting his little sister, Ann come to his Tennis match (and I'll admit the little one is adorable). More crap with Nao and something I noticed in this and shows like it I'll save for my random notes. Ann overjoyed to be there while the Girls Team has that same smug air of superiority about them...and it looks like Nao is having Nam Flashbacks or something. The Beta Buddies let Ann go to the bathroom by themselves and obviously they lose track of her. Nao finds her but pulls a dick move by locking her in the Nurse's Office while Toma and their Advisor (His Name doesn't matter) apologize to and I wish I was joking their Female Superiors. Maki, because he's the special figures that Ann is in the Nurse's office and the rest of the Scrub Squad join in on the Simping. They all have a laugh and the show a few seconds of Tennis before resuming the Woke in progress.

Most o the Episode is over and they setback Japanese males a WHOLE century. After trying to rationalize THAT we see Tsubatsa at home where I guess the concept of Tennis pisses off his dad. One thing leads to another and Daddy uses his ring hand on him and Tsubatsa goes down the stairs. He breaks his wrist and runs out like a Total Bitch. He makes it to Shingo's house and the take him to the Doctor to confirm he's a bi- I mean his wrist is broken. After the credits the waste time having him have a little cry about how his dad wanted him to play soccer but I'm out of Punkass Beta jokes.

Random Notes

I noticed that a LOT of woke productions go out of their way to make Male Dad characters occupations either vague or non existent. These dumb dumbs are So busy trying to tip the scale forgetting that Men won't simply "Go Away" there will be a lot of them around pissed and it will be their problem...

Most Confusing Motivation

If Nao "Really" gave a shit about tennis or doing his own thing why did he tell his Mom all that stuff and pull whatever that was in the episode? I would understand if she actually beat him like the other guy but what(?).

...This Show Hates Men and itself

Episode 10

More apologies bitching and bad line reads. Atashi is back because despite being "Better" than these scrubs he has NOTHING else to do. They run into the same guy in duplicate and these are the "Rivals" of the upcomming match. Rintaro gets some "Good" news about his mother and Toma has a "Moment" with his Mom. The spit they fire is amazing. Kadako finds out that twitter (or whatever the hell this is) hates Beta Men and almost everyone thumbs down her posts. Fatty is back and tells them they are doing okay and all they need to do is win once to not be declared Cancelled. Toma (like a bitch) defers to the Hefer and they find out they have an uphill battle in their shit tier show. Long story short they lose the first 2 matches.

Random Notes

I think Toma's brother and Mom ARE fucking

Most Amazing Outburst

Toma Really hates his Mother or She Really hates him. Too bad there is No explanation for this.

I'm going to slit my Wrists!

Episode 11

I forgot I had a Sub Copy of the episode. Maki and Toma have their match with the Black kid, Joy. After a lot of BS and flashbacks they Win and are Now STILL scrubs! Bu seriously they beat the Black kid so bad in that match he up and quits tennis so that's a little funny. Nao's mom has be calling him nonstop and gives Very rapey vibes. Atashi is still in this show for some reason and the Leads have another match with some randos. They win again and their next match is against the Twins form the last episode. Also Rintaro gets a call from his real mommy and like I joked in the last episode I think Toma's Brother and Mom are Fucking.

Random Notes

Even in Japanese this Show SUCKS

Most Boring Premise

11 Episodes and I don't know why they chose Tennis and mixed the Woke Rulebook in.

Just End Dammit...

Episode 12

Rintaro is trying to find his Real mommy and the match against the Twins is about to start. Atashi warns them that they're REALLY good as if that means anything. For the Last episode it is Less eventful than the previous since not only did they win against a tough opponent but the loss made them quit. Long story short they back the Twins into a corner but STILL lose. They get to keep their scrub club but the show is about to end. Slow clap started by the guy in the crowd with PINK fingernails. The credits run pretty early was Toma's mom ditches him for her brother (I'm Dead Serious), Kadako continues to get "Hate" online and Maki's Mother gets to visit the Hospital. It turns out Daddy paid a visit and gave her the Non Sexual business. Maki finally takes a stand for once and Stabs his dad and the show...is...over!

Random Notes

For an Unemployed Toxic Male, Maki's dad has a nice office with booze, a laptop and PC, a desk with several books. I take it that he was either a Programmer or a Architect like the mother. But nah, women have it worse. If a guy fails it's just the way things work...

Most Terrible End

Yeah it ends on a Cliffhanger and like any reasonable person that watches Anime believes this show deserves it. As a slice of life anime it is as cynical as the backstory of Lucy from Elfin Lied and it's not even a quarter as entertaining. I can't think of anything that worked that was put front and center. The Sport, one of the Leads had to be bribed into caring. The Characters, almost all of them are Losers in some shape or form and are checkboxes restricted by the medium of the culture. The Virtue Signaling, the "Body Positivity" and Trans characters are Glorified Extras. I thank you Japan for rejecting THIS garbage and making it clear that Anime and Entertainment go hand and hand.
