REVUE REVIEWS: Squirrel And Hedgehog (BRAVE SOLDIERS)

Back by Popular demand or just to use my old Blog. But Yes I am reviewing a North Korean Propaganda Cartoon. This is a strange one that takes a while to get through and more confusing throughout.

The Story is about the Lotus Hill Alliance (North Korea), their "Struggles" against the Weasel Army (Japan and South Korea) and the adventures of Gino who is a Double Agent from Lotus Hill. It's easy to just simply call this show crap because it's Propaganda but to be fair...We did this too. The show could be compared to G.I. JOE if all the characters were animals.

Oh yeah this show plays for keeps.

Its real funny that the show looked like a wonky old-school Disney cartoon until the Military elements to center stage. And unlike G.I. JOE which used the Military aspects to sell vehicles and toys , this show does the same thing but the approach is not nearly as memorable.

One of my main problems with this show is the odd characterization, oh there are characters but strangely it's the Villains that appear the most interesting. The Main guy Gino is alright but because of the one note nature of the show's premise all he is a good undercover officer. This Guy HAS NO LIFE OUTSIDE OF HIS JOB.

Now the characters in G.I. JOE don't get as much screen time to flesh out their off time but they do other things. Another thing I noticed is that the Lotus Hill Alliance doesn't really do much and rarely gets into battles that cost them anything. Interesting Warfare has stakes but these guys never any suffer massive losses. In all honesty MOST of the conflict is from infighting of the Weasel Army and it doesn't help that Gino and his brother (WHO HAS THE SAME POSITION AND ROLE IN THE STORY) outfight most of their enemies with ease.

The animation even for it's time is impressive, their are Animation errors and overly sped up scenes but to this Shows credit it works. I do like some of the setups they use for some of the battles but like I pointed out earlier the Militaristic nature of this show is cranked to the max and you won't see the Weasels coming up with Hypnosis Rock Bands.
